Sink throwing
I regularly throw sinks in various shapes for a creative construction company. Throwing sinks is challenging in different ways depending on the chosen shape.
You work with a large amount of clay, so there is a lot of mass to center and shape. The curve needs to be precise, the inside should be perfectly thrown (or refined), and the hole must be accurately measured. Glazing such a large piece is not always straightforward.

  • Who is this workshop for

    To participate in this workshop, you should have experience with wheel throwing. You need to be comfortable with centering, although you don't necessarily need to center 5 kg of clay; you should have experience working with at least 2 kg of clay. Depending on your skill level, we will determine the shape and size of the sink.

  • What to bring

    • Apron
    • 2 towels that you don't mind getting dirty
    • Rag
    • Wear old clothes and shoes (all stains should come out)
    • Short nails
    • Lunch (ordering is also an option)

  • Included

    Unlimited white stoneware clay and the bisque firing of one finished piece is included in the course fee. Additional finished sinks can be taken home (unfired).

    High-quality throwing and trimming tools, as well as bats, will be provided for the participants, but you are welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer.

    Glazing is optional but available with a choice of 11 SOGO glazes at Atelier Kom Moi. Please book a separate glazing session through the webshop!

    The cost for the final glaze firing of finished pieces will be billed separately by Kom Moi based on weight. The glazes at Kom Moi are fully produced and maintained by SOGO keramiek, with a selection of 11 beautiful colors available!

    Cookies, water, coffee, and tea will be provided.

  • Where and when

    February 19, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (throwing)
    February 26, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM (trimming)

  • Cancellation

    If you need to cancel, you can do so up to one month before the course starts. In this case, I will refund the course fee minus a €20 administrative fee.

    If you cancel less than a month before the course, the course fee will not be refunded unless you can find a replacement or there are people on the waiting list who can take your spot. In either of these conditions, I will refund the course fee minus a €20 administrative fee.
